A fresh and fun interior with a vibrant graphic direction was our brief for this inner suburban studio. We combined ply joinery, black metal and broad swathes of yellow to realise a highly energetic and engaging series of spaces. Creating both a peaceful, light filled yoga studio and a more dramatic and energised pilates room, Upstate Balaclava is a mix of contrasting spaces that retain beautiful original qualities such as raw brickwork and timber flooring.

Features throughout include sculptural metal signs, bold large format graphic applications, neon and LED applications and hand painted typography executed by Shaun Manion.

Other notable details we commissioned include a lovely custom reception pendant by PleasePleasePlease and a bank of beautiful yellow plywood lockers built by Like Butter.

The result is a fresh, welcoming and very positive space that has a wonderful relaxed energy, it’s approachable and friendly. And that just about sums up the attitude of this popular studio.
